Private Jet Charter Cost Estimator

What is a private jet charter cost estimator? For your convenience, our team has developed a proprietary tool that can be used to calculate the costs of chartering a private jet. The Algorithm uses several data points to obtain its results ranging from multiple aircraft categories. Keep in mind, that such calculations do not include any taxes and fees and should be used only to get an approximate cost of the charter flight. It is free and you are not required to provide any information to calculate the cost of a charter flight. If you would like for one of our experienced aviators to give you a precise air charter quote, simply fill out the details after generating a price estimate and someone from our team will reach out immediately to discuss the details of your flight and go over available options with you.

How a charter flight cost is determined

The costs of a private jet charter are broken into several factors. Even though you will not see a breakdown of all costs in your formal quote from an air charter operator or a broker, this guide will help you get an understanding of the final price.

Aircraft hourly rate and total flight time

One of the first things to look out for is the hourly rate of the aircraft x the total flight time of your flight. This is the highest Itemized cost of the charter. Keeping in mind, that if your charter quote is not point-to-point meaning the aircraft is repositioning to another airport shortly after your flight, you will be billed for such repositioning time and it may exceed your point-to-point flight time. Such repositioning costs are not included in the quote. The category of the aircraft chosen will highly impact the hourly rate of your charter. Below, you will find estimated hourly rates per private jet category.
Jet Category Number of Passengers Range (Nautical Miles) Hourly Rate Get an estimate
Light
4 – 8 2,100 – 2,300 $2,600 – $3,500 Request a Quote
Midsize
6 – 8 2,200 – 3,500 $3,200 – $4,300 Request a Quote
Super Midsize
8 – 10 3,000 – 4,200 $4,400 – $6,000 Request a Quote
Large
9 – 19 3,500 – 7,800 $5,500 – $7,000 Request a Quote
Ultra Long Range
10 – 19 3,500 – 7,800 $8,000 – $12,000 Request a Quote

Charter Destination

It can make the most sense from an economical standpoint to source an aircraft nearest to you. Such aircraft available for charter either may already be parked on the tarmac waiting for a flight opportunity, or it may be based at that airport. By making sure one of the above is being taken into consideration, you will be able to eliminate repositioning time which accrues hourly repositioning costs that are passed down to you at the time of contract. Keep in mind, that this can help you save the front repositioning costs of the charter flight, but not the end repositioning costs of the charter flight. This is due to the operator’s schedule as it may have to pick up another flyer at a different airport after your flight. It may be a good idea to find out the aircraft’s final destination if the charter operator is willing to share the information that way you can make an educated decision whether you wouldn’t mind flying into an airport further from your desire destination to save on costs. Discuss all options with your charter broker for the best pricing.

Round-trip flights

When booking round-trip flights, you will most likely incur overnight/parking fees for the aircraft and the crew to stay put for the duration of your trip. This also restricts the aircraft from booking and flying while it is sitting parked at the Fixed Base Operator (FBO). Typically, you can expect anywhere between $2,000-$3,500 per day in overnight fees depending on if it’s a national or international flight. Such costs are tackled in your charter quote. Such fees take into account aircraft parking, facility fees, crew hotels, meals.

International flights

All international flights are subject to foreign permits, overflight fees, and customs. Such charges are included in the final price of the charter. Such fees can range anywhere from $1500-3500 Dollars. On the other hand, Federal Excise Tax also referred to as FET is not required for international flights.

Federal Excise Tax (FET)

Federal Excise Tax (FET) will always apply for flights inside of the United States. The tax rate is 7.5% of the charter cost, plus the US segment fee of $4.30 per passenger, per flight leg. Paying taxes on a charter flight is 100% mandatory at the time of booking a private jet charter.

Fuel Surcharges

Fuel Surcharge may vary by operator. This typically means that the operator of the aircraft adds on a set rate to accommodate fuel price fluctuation. Most operators, however, include a base and have great fuel pricing that allows them not to charge any fuel surcharges after all.

Airport Landing Fees

Landing fees are associated with the landing of the aircraft at that particular airport. Airport landing fees can range anywhere from 50 dollars to a premium of 1,000 dollars at high traffic, popular international airports like John F. Kennedy (JFK), La Guardia International Airport (LGA), and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).

Fixed Based Operator Facility Fees

Shortly after landing, you will be greeted by linemen from the FBO who will be providing ground support for the aircraft upon its arrival at the ramp. Such agent will be responsible for fueling the aircraft, towing the aircraft if needed to a parking space or any other ground service request needed. Typically, these fees range anywhere from $100 to $350 dollars and are charged at the departing and arrival FBO. The facility fees are always included in your charter quote.

Conclusion

Now that you have an in-depth understanding of all of the itemized charges that break down the cost of your charter, you can feel more at ease knowing what you’re paying for. Some of these fees can be negotiated by a professional broker, where you can expect to save thousands of dollars. At this current demand in private travel, a good broker on your side is essential. FAQs

On-demand charter is often referred to pay-as-you-fly. Often times, other companies will require a jet charter membership which consists of prepaying hundreds of flight hours upfront tying you down with contracts, initial deposits and long-term commitments. Velox Air Charter Private Jet Charter Cost Estimator process is very simple with no gimmicks all while still maintaining the same true market competitive pricing that you can always count on. One flight at a time.

Many factors such as flight times and distances, type of aircraft and the length of the flight. For example, if you are flying a round-trip or multi-leg flight with many days ( usually more than 3 days) before your return flight on that same particular aircraft, you will incur aircraft, crew expenses often referred as “overnights” to cover the costs of hotels, aircraft parking for those days that the aircraft will be stationary on the ground.

Such fees are typically non-negotiable with the operator/owner of the aircraft as these are fixed expenses incurred during each and every flight. If the Private Jet cannot simply stay on the ground for a course of several days, the price will often be higher as the operator will build round-trip pricing for each leg. This means the aircraft will drop you off, leave to its next destination or its base, and then come back for you when you’re ready to depart. That’s a lot of flying therefore incurring higher charges.

The aircraft marketed are owned by private individuals, companies for corporate travel or aircraft management companies that charter planes for profit or to offset aircraft ownership costs. Many aircraft are marketed for jet charter by its owners when not in use.
